
With the Ann Kang Invitational and Waimea tournaments in the books, the state turns its eyes to this week’s Hawaii Volleyball Invitational at Kamehameha and Lee Ann DeLima Volleyball Classic hosted by Kamehameha-Maui.
The 13th edition of the Hawaii Volleyball Invitational runs for three days with the final scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. Six of the top 10 teams in the Star-Advertiser’s poll will be in action, including three of the top four.
Play opens at 4 p.m. on Thursday with Kamehameha taking on Waimea and Hawaii Baptist facing Kamehameha-White.
The defending state champion Warriors, who are ranked No. 1 in the Star-Advertiser poll, share a pool with No. 9 Mililani, Waimea and Iolani II.
The other pools are:
Pool 2: No. 4 ‘Iolani, Kamehameha-Hawaii, Pearl City and St. Francis.
Pool 3: No. 8 Moanalua, King Kekaulike, Damien, Kamehameha-Blue.
Pool 4: No. 2 Kahuku, No. 7 Hawaii Baptist, KS-Hawaii II, Kamehameha-White.
Kamehameha-Maui’s tournament features only two ranked teams, with No. 6 Kapolei and No. 10 Konawaena, but is solid nontheless.
The rest of the field contains Castle, Fountain Valley (Calif.), Kalaheo, KS-Maui, Kapaa, Kealakehe, Lahianaluna, Maryknoll, Maui, Mid-Pacific, Radford, University and Waiakea.
The tournament runs Thursday through Saturday.
