A season of brilliance doesn’t always end with a state championship.

No, there is so much talent spread across the islands that sometimes the crown is earned by the team that puts together the best balance. In 2019, that also required unparalleled power hitting. The ‘Iolani Raiders bashed their way to their first state title in 19 seasons, and four of their starters landed on the Star-Advertiser All-State first team. Pitcher/outfielder Aleia Agbayani was voted player of the year, and her father, Benny, was voted coach of the year.

Senior catcher/utility Kai Barrett, freshman right fielder Allie Capello and freshman pitcher/shortstop Ailana Agbayani were also elected to the first team. The Raiders chatted with Hawaii Prep World about the season.
