VIDEO: All-State player of the year Micah Yonamine drafted by Philadelphia Phillies

‘Iolani catcher Micah Yonamine closed out his prep career with a bang, swatting 11 home runs and driving home 34 runs.

Yonamine also batted .500 and was voted Star-Advertiser All-State position player of the year. He chatted with Hawaii Prep World about everything from his favorite athlete (Kris Bryant) to his favorite teacher, traveling East and West, and his secret talent.


Yonamine, who signed with Illinois State, was selected in the 29th round of the 2019 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Wednesday by the Philadelphia Phillies as a catcher. The No. 870 overall pick is the second ‘Iolani player taken in the draft this year.
