VIDEO: Baldwin/HPA congratulate each other

New Hawaii Preparatory Academy boys soccer coach James Berry will have All-State first team striker Jake Schneider as a senior next season. Jamm Aquino / Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

Enemies one minute. Brothers the next.

A dramatic, back-and-forth Division I state boys soccer final between Baldwin and Hawaii Prep on Saturday night was in overtime, tied 0-0 and about to reach its conclusion at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

Little did anyone know that a lightning delay would eventually lead to the cancellation of the rest of the contest and instead of having the first state D-I champion from the Neighbor Islands, we have two.

Soon after, the Bears and Ka Makani met for their handshake (and lots of brotherly hugs) line — not on the field, but near the concession stand.
