The Datahouse/HHSAA Softball State Championships begin in less than 48 hours with No. 5 Maryknoll getting it started.

The Spartans, who finished in third place in the ILH and clinched the league’s final berth with a win over Kamehameha last Tuesday, were the only team to move up in the Star-Advertiser Softball Top 10 this week, jumping to No. 5.

Six of the top 10 teams will be in action on the first day at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium with No. 3 ‘Iolani playing No. 10 Waianae in one of two games in the opening round involving ranked teams.

An OIA East rivalry will continue when Roosevelt, which tied St. Francis for the No. 6 spot this week, faces No. 8 Kaiser.

The Saints are one of two Division II teams ranked in the top 10 this week. Kamehameha-Hawaii, the No. 1 seed in the Division II state tournament on Maui, held steady at No. 9.

Campbell is at No. 1 for the ninth straight week and can tie its record of 10 straight weeks at No. 1 with a fourth D-I state title in the last five years.

Lahainaluna (nine), Kapolei (four), Baldwin (two) and Waialua (one) also received at least one vote this week.
