Five different Chargers scored goals as Pearl City romped Kapolei 5-0 to open the first day of The Queen’s Medical Center/HHSAA Girls Soccer State Championships on Monday.

Both Oahu teams that traveled off island were victorious as Mililani knocked off Hilo 2-0 and Campbell shut out Kamehameha-Maui 1-0.

Two-time defending state champion ‘Iolani handled Moanalua 3-0 at the Raiders’ field.

The OIA runner-up Chargers (11-2-1) led 1-0 at halftime on a goal from Jasmine Herodies and added four second-half goals as Preston Spragling, Kaila Takai, Soraya Santos and Chanyn Santos all hit the back of the net.

The Chargers had beaten Kapolei 6-0 in the regular season and 3-1 in the OIA quarterfinals.

Campbell’s Jourdyn Curran scored in the seventh minute and neither team found the back of the net the rest of the way as the Sabers (10-4-1) held off the Warriors and advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2016.

Cecelia Jenkins scored both goals for the Trojans (11-1-2), who are playing in the state tournament for the 21st consecutive season.

Mililani has another streak that could be in danger on Thursday. The Trojans have advanced to the semifinals in each of the last 11 state tournaments, but would need a win over No. 1 seed Kamehameha to get there. The last time Mililani failed to advance to the semis was when it lost to the Warriors 2-1 in penalty kicks in 2007.

‘Iolani (10-2-1) extended its winning streak to nine in the state tournament with goals from Sasha Asselbaye, Marea Lee and Kaitlin Uemoto. The Raiders have won their last two state titles as an unseeded team as they are again this year.

The last time ‘Iolani won the ILH was in 2016, when it lost to Pearl City in the semifinals.
