Saint Louis’ Mason Tufaga, Wynden Hoohuli ranked among best in nation

The OIA-ILH interleague football schedule is out. The 28 Oahu teams will be battling in the regular season in three tiers against each other, hoping to make it all the way to the championship tripleheader. Just how loaded is the linebacker group at Saint Louis this season?

Not only do the Crusaders boast the top two ranked prospects in the state in linebackers Jordan Botelho and Nate Herbig, but the two highest ranked recruits in the recently released 247Sports Top 247 for the class of 2021 are linebackers as well — and also from Saint Louis.

Sophomores Mason Tufaga and Wynden Hoohuli both made the 247 rankings with Tufaga listed as the No. 83 overall prospect in the country among current sophomores.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound outside linebacker, who had a tackle for loss in the Open Division state final against Mililani, has already earned scholarship offers from Hawaii, Oregon, Oregon State, South Carolina, Southern California and Utah.

Among players at his position, Tufaga is ranked sixth at outside linebacker.

Hoohuli, an inside linebacker who is already 6-foot-3, 220 pounds, is ranked as the No. 112 overall prospect in the country among sophomores and third among inside linebackers.

Hawaii, Arizona and Utah have already offered Hoohuli.

They are the only four-star recruits currently listed by 247Sports among the sophomore class.

Including the junior class, all five four-star recruits currently in Hawaii all attend Saint Louis. Botelho, Herbig, Tufaga, Hoohuli and junior receiver Matt Sykes, who recently added an Oregon offer to his list, are listed with four stars.
