
Roosevelt’s Mari Foster was named as the Hawaii Gatorade softball player of the year by the Gatorade Company recently.
The award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the field.
The 5-foot-7 senior outfielder and right-handed pitcher led the Rough Riders (15-3) to the Division I tournament play-in game. Foster batted .604 (29-for-48) with nine home runs, 34 RBIs, 23 runs scored, a .627 on-base percentage and a 1.333 slugging percentage. In the circle, Foster went 2-0 with a 0.39 ERA, striking out 14 while allowing just five hits over 18 innings pitched.
Foster was also the class president during her freshman, sophomore and junior years.As a senior, she served as the class communications officer. She maintained a 3.58 grade-point average and will play for Pacific Lutheran in the fall.
