Brackets and seedings for the New City Nissan/HHSAA Boys Volleyball State Championships were released on Saturday night.
In Division I, ILH powerhouse Punahou remains the top seed in the state with a 15-0 record, while BIIF champion Kamehameha-Hawaii claimed the No. 2 seed. Mililani earned the No. 3 seed as the OIA champion with a 13-0 record, while Kamehameha-Maui clinched the fourth seed and final first-round bye.
Two O’ahu schools will travel interisland for their Division I first-round matchups on May 1. Kapolei will visit BIIF runner-up Waiakea while Waipahu will face King Kekaulike in Pukalani.
In the remaining first-round games, Kaiser will travel to OIA East rival Moanalua, while Waianae will take on ILH runner-up ‘Iolani. Radford will host two Division I quarterfinal games and Moanalua will be the site for the Division I quarterfinals and semifinals.
In Division II, Hawaii Baptist claimed the top seed, followed by Kapaa, Farrington, and Molokai. Kalani and Hawaii Baptist will host the Division II matches except the championship. Both Division I and II title matches will be played on Saturday at the Neal Blaisdell Center.
Punahou enters the tournament ranked No. 5 in the nation and has dropped only one set to a Hawaii opponent (‘Iolani) all season.
The five-time defending state champions have been taken to a fifth set only once during that run — a 3-2 win over KS-Hawaii in the 2012 title match.
