The Punahou boys volleyball team is ranked No. 5 in the nation in the latest MaxPreps rankings released Tuesday.

The Buffanblu added the Clash of the Titans to their impressive resume this season, sweeping both Kamehameha-Hawaii and Huntington Beach (Calif.), which is ranked No. 15 in the same poll.

Punahou has failed to drop a set to a Hawaii team this season and won the Best of the West tournament last month. During the two-day event, Punahou went 6-1 and earned three-set wins over No. 2 Corona del Mar (Calif.) and No. 4 Mater Dei (Calif.). Their only loss was in three sets to Edison (Calif.), which is ranked No. 17.

Punahou also owns a three-set win over No. 7 Oak Park (Calif.).

The Buffanblu play at ‘Iolani in an ILH second-round match today at 5 p.m. The Raiders went 1-1 at the Clash of the Titans, beating KS-Hawaii in four sets after getting swept by Huntington Beach.

Punahou has won five straight and seven of the last eight Division I state titles.

Can we please get a 3 tier division for all sports and not just Football? Im sure there are other teams that want to win Volleyball titles too. I guess all is good in the universe when an ILH school dominates a sport but when Kahuku (from the OIA) starts to dominate in Football they find a need to change the format to get a 2nd ILH team into the tourney and Iolani a guaranteed seed in the middle tier tourney. Give all schools a chance in all sports. jeez!

Punahou DOMINATES in boys volleyball. They are virtually untouchable in Hawai’i. They’ve won like 30+ state championships. And they’re gonna win another one this year (unless there is some crazy upset). They’re graduating only 3 seniors. So guess what’s gonna happen next year too? They’re going to just continue to kick okole.

So whats the use of even stepping on the court if Punahou is that Dominant in Volleyball, im sure a lot of teams in the OIA D1 that dont stand a chance against Punahou in the state tourney would like to be in a more balanced division. Lets create Open div for teams like Punahou and give more teams a chance at a state title in a D1 and D2 divisions.

    Open Division:
    Punahou/ Kam/ Iolani/ Marynoll/ Moanalua/ Mililani

    D1 Division:
    The rest of the OIA

    D2 Division:
The other rest of the OIA

Punahou would need to be in the open division all by themselves! HA! Kamehameha, Iolani, and Maryknoll have all lost to Punahou this season. Iolani was the only team (last night) who managed to take one SET from them. And that was huge. I’m public school, but Mililani and Moanalua don’t stand a chance either. Moanalua had Matautia last year and they still lost to Punahou in 3. I’m not a Punahou fan but to watch those boys play. They’re a machine.
