Kapolei makes a move in volleyball Top 10

Kapolei moved up to No. 5 in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser Top 10 this week. The Hurricanes' Alexis Mareko tipped the ball in last week's win over Mililani. Cindy Ellen Russell / Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

Kapolei’s dominant win over Mililani on Thursday impressed voters enough to push the Hurricanes up three spots to No. 5 in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser girls volleyball Top 10 released Monday.

It was the league season opener, but the Hurricanes appeared to be in midseason form in getting the rare win over the Oahu Interscholastic Association powerhouse Trojans.

Nos. 1 through 4 — ‘Iolani, Kamehameha, Punahou and Kahuku — remained the same as last week’s first poll of the season.

Hawaii Baptist entered the poll at No. 10 and King Kekaulike, No. 9 last week, dropped out.

Kamehameha-Maui (6), Kamehameha-Hawaii (5), Mililani (2), Damien (2), King Kekaulike (1) and Sacred Hearts (1) also received votes this week.
