Kahuku fans can expect another trip into town when the state tournament begins Oct. 25.

The streak was never really in jeopardy this year, and the Kahuku girls volleyball team showed why.

The Red Raiders beat Leilehua 25-5, 25-15, 25-19 in the OIA girls volleyball playoffs on Thursday night to clinch a spot in the state tournament.

They still have the OIA championships to finish, but they will participate in the New City Nissan State Volleyball Championships for the 16th consecutive year beginning Oct. 25.

No other school has a longer streak. Kahuku hasn’t missed states since 2000.

Moanalua will join the East champions at states again this year, punching their ticket with a sweep of Kailua. Na Menehune have made the tournament 15 years in a row.

Other OIA schools to cinch berths were Mililani, which has been in every year since 2006, and Kapolei for the third year in a row.

All four seeded teams won on Thursday, the last time a seeded team failed to make the tournament was Kapolei in 2013.
