Hawaii Prep drew the top seed in Division I in The Queen’s Medical Center/HHSAA Boys Soccer State Championships. It’s the first time a school from outside Oahu has been awarded the top spot.
Brackets were released Wednesday night.
Ka Makani shared the title with Baldwin last year after a scoreless draw. The Bears are unseeded after losing the MIL to King Kekaulike and would meet Hawaii Prep for the rematch in the semifinals should both teams advance.
The MIL champions drew the second seed with ILH champion Punahou slotted third and OIA champion Kapolei getting the fourth seed.
The tournament kicks off on Monday with Kaiser at ‘Iolani, Pearl City visiting Baldwin at War Memorial Stadium, Mililani hosting Campbell and Kalani traveling to Hilo to meet the Vikings.
The Trojans advanced to the state tournament for the 12th straight year. That’s the longest current streak ahead of Punahou and Kapolei, which are in the tournament for the 11th consecutive season.
The second round of the tournament is Thursday at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Park with the semifinals on Feb. 8 and the championship on Feb. 9.
Defending champion Kamehameha-Hawaii is the top seed for the Division II tournament beginning Thursday at Waipio and running through Saturday.
The Big Island has had the top seed for three straight years.
ILH champion Saint Louis is the second seed, followed by OIA champion Kalaheo and KIF champion Kapaa. The other schools in the field are Waialua, Seabury Hall, Waipahu and Makua Lani.
