All appears to be right with Teniya Alo.

The last time we saw the phenom she was fighting through obvious pain to turn Leilehua’s Kayla Lono for third place at the state tournament after a shocking loss to Netanya Kang of Pearl City.

She missed the entire regular season with an injury that reappeared at states. She offered no excuses after the loss that prevented her from becoming the first girl to take four wrestling and judo golds, but it was obvious to anyone matside that something wasn’t right.

Judging by her perfomance at the Officials tournament for Kahuku, everything is right now.

Alo pinned each of her opponents last week, only allowing Lana Perez of Moanalua out of the first period. It brought her her second Officials title and jumped her over inactive two-time state champ Donavyn Futa of Kamehameha on Hawaii Prep World’s pound-for-pound rankings.

Alexis Encinas of Lahainaluna and Pearl City’s Mikayla Abe made the biggest jumps in the rankings thanks to dominating performances at Leilehua.

How does a wrestler who has lost to two different opponents, who are not even mentioned in the P4P, have her name listed? Most of the wrestlers you list haven’t lost a match, while those that do have a loss, its to a wrestler ranked higher than them, which ok, that I can understand.

    Hi Gail,

Which wrestler are you thinking about?

  3. Gail S December 25, 2016 4:59 pm

Kama….I don’t want to identify the wrestler only because I’m not trying to take anything away from her, my question really is a general one to the author about what other criteria is being used? The data is provided in this years Officials Tournament results. I don’t know anymore than what has been provided in this article, I just found it surprising.

Hey Gail, everything in the p4p is completely subjective fodder and we all would have different lists. There is a math element that I use as a base, though, and that girl’s previous state championship and two ILH titles keep her on the second tier.

It might not keep her there for long, as more results come in, but for now I am confident with her listed where she is.

Jerry….thanks for the reply, the added info is exactly what I was asking for. The time & effort you put in to create a list like this is much appreciated.
