Media reports that have Colt Brennan going to Moanalua as Na Menehune’s quarterbacks coach are premature.

Yes, Brennan is interested in becoming an assistant to new head coach Savaii Eselu, and yes, Eselu wants him as his assistant.

But the hire of the former University of Hawaii football star has not been finalized by the Moanalua administration.

According to a Moanalua spokesman, senior-to-be quarterback Alakai Yuen has been working informally with Brennan, who was a Heisman Trophy candidate during his time with the Rainbow Warriors.

The Moanalua administration, Eselu and Department of Education personnel will meet Thursday to discuss the possible hire.

The DOE’s procedeure in the hiring of assistant coaches is a little less stringent than the hiring of head coaches, but there still needs to be formal approval before a hire is made.

Brennan worked with Kahuku as an assistant coach a few seasons back.
