Baldwin headlines 808 Prep Soccer Showcase

Next week the state will get its first hint if the Baldwin Bears boys soccer team still has some of the magic it ended last season with.

The ninth edition of the 808 Prep Soccer Showcase kicks off on Wednesday, Nov. 14 and run through Saturday with all games at Kapolei High School.

The Bears, who bulldozed Oahu powers Kapolei and Punahou on their way to a shared state championship with Hawaii Prep, don’t play until the second day of the tournament.

But their first match promises to be a doozy as far as preseason soccer goes. The Bears open with a state semifinal rematch with Punahou on Thursday. Baldwin won 3-1 the last time they met.

Six of the eight teams in the field went to the state tournament last year, with only Saint Louis and KS-Maui missing out.

Here is the complete schedule for this year’s tournament, which has served as a preview of things to come for the last nine years.

Baldwin made it to the final of last year’s 808 Prep Soccer Showcase, serving notice as a state power but falling to Kapolei 2-0 in the championship. The Bears beat the Hurricanes by the same score in the state semifinals.
