APRIL 24, 1975: Greg Adaro and Ricky Guzman team up for no-no

Waipahu’s Greg Adaro and Ricky Guzman had each thrown no-hitters before, but on this date in 1975 they combined on one.

Adaro pitched seven innings and Guzman worked the final two to complete a 3-2 win over Campbell at the University of Hawaii field.

Adaro walked four batters in the seventh inning before being pulled. Guzman struck out his only batter in the inning to put out the fire. The game ended on a squeeze play gone awry.

Waipahu ended up rallying to make the state tournament but the Adaro-Guzman 1-2 punch couldn’t compete with Aiea’s Derek Tatsuno and Clifford Heard and Na Alii won the OIA for the fourth straight year.

The Marauders were dealt with harshly in the first round at states, being shut out 3-0 by Scott Tomita and Maui. Aiea made it to the state final but lost to ILH champion Iolani.
