Defending champion Santa Margarita is in position to repeat at the Ann Kang Invitational.
The California school finished the second day of the tournament 6-0 without losing a set, the only school to do so. Mira Costa also went 6-0, but dropped two sets.
Southlake Carroll is third with a 5-1 record entering today’s final day.
Hawaii schools slipped a bit at the tournament, with Iolani falling to both Edison and Kahuku in three sets to drop to 4-2. The host Raiders open the final day against Southlake Carroll at 11 a.m.
The final is scheduled for 4 p.m.
Punahou matched Iolani with a 4-2 record, losing in three to Mira Costa before sweeping Newport Harbor and Le Jardin. The Buffanblu face Boswell on Saturday.
Kahuku is also 4-2, losing to Southlake Carroll on Friday. The Red Raiders open with Sage Hill on Saturday.
Other Hawaii schools didn’t fare so well. Moanalua went 1-5 with its only win coming against Iolani I-AA, and Hawaii Baptist goes into the final day 0-6 with only two sets to its name. The Eagles open with Kingwood, which went 1-5, on Saturday.
Mainland schools haven’t repeated at the tournament since Mira Costa in 2008 and Redondo Union in 2009. Santa Margarita won the tournament last year.
