All-State softball, 2000-09

Kailua starting pitcher, Courtney Kessell was all smiles walking off the field after pitching out of a bases loaded jam preserving her shut out win over Castle in 2003.

With the Star-Advertiser’s softball all-state team coming out Sunday, here is a look at the All-State teams from 2000-09.

The decade was still dominated by great pitchers, but the best might have been Kailua’s Courtney Kessell, who reigned as the player of the year in 2003 and again in 2005, the only pitcher who was honored multiple times. The end of the decade featured the state’s first full-fledged star who didn’t reside in the circle in Mililani infielder Courtney Senas. Senas was the position player of the year in 2008 and 2009.

Tomorrow we will post the next decade leading up to this year’s selections on Sunday.
