All-State softball, 1990-99

Kailua's Pomai Kapule remains the only athlete to win player of the year three times in a row in softball.

With the Star-Advertiser’s softball all-state team coming out Sunday, here is a look at the All-State teams from 1990-99.

The decade had its fair share of stars early on, but nobody compared to Pomai Kapule of Kailua in the middle of the decade. Kapule is the only girl to be named player of the year three straight times by a newspaper, earning the recognition from the Honolulu Advertiser from 1995-97 before making way for Iolani’s Mitzi Ing.

Tomorrow we will post the next decade leading up to this year’s selections on Sunday.

Anybody who was around softball in the 90’s knows Kaplue is the best pitcher Hawaii has ever had. She was just a beast.
