Kaiser’s Tashiro wins season opener

Defending state cross country champion Lisa Tashiro of Kaiser won the season-opening Michael Doran Invitational on Saturday at Kalani.

Tashiro finished the girls 3-mile race in 20 minutes, 31.54 seconds. Cassandra Frenzel of Kalaheo was second in 21:43.05 and teammate Emily McLemore was third in 21:54.90. Kalaheo placed five girls in the top 15 to win the team title with 20 points.

Avery Torres of Kalaheo won the boys 3-mile race in 17:38.96 and teammate Colby Otero was second in 17:47.25. Kaiser placed five boys in the top 10 to win the team title with 33 points.
