Moanalua’s RJ Javar and Waipahu’s Alfred Failauga continue to fill up the stat sheet

By Kyle Sakamoto on September 22, 2019

Moanalua quarterback RJ Javar leads the state in passing yards and Waipahu running back Alfred Failauga, Hawaii’s all-time leading rusher, is blowing away everyone else in rushing yards this season. Yet neither player has a Division I scholarship offer, which remains befuddling after the performance of both in Saturday’s clash at Waipahu. Javar and Failauga both shined with No. 6 Na Menehune holding off the Marauders 31-28 in an OIA Division I contest. Javar completed 28 of 45 passes for […]

GAME NIGHT 9/13: Waipahu/’Iolani

By Paul Honda on September 13, 2019

‘Iolani 48, Waipahu 14 Waipahu kickoff is a nice one again, touchback. And a Waipahu player says something to a referee, and the yellow flag flies. Unsportsmanlike conduct. Why would any player say something that bad to a referee on a touchback? Incredible. Waipahu tacks on a TD before the close. Three more carries for Failauga, who picks up 17, 17 and then a 2-yard TD. That’s 298 yards on 41 carries. None of it came easy. IOLANI 48, WAIPAHU […]

Waipahu gets creative but falls short against Damien

By Brian McInnis on August 24, 2019

Alfred Failauga has proven time and time again he can hurt you with his legs. On Friday night at Waipahu’s field, he showed that his arm and hands are pretty deadly, too. On the Marauders’ first play from scrimmage, the state’s all-time career rushing leader took an option pitch from quarterback Cody Marques, stopped in the backfield, and heaved it about 35 yards upfield to a wide-open Jovan Gooman, who caught it at the 50 and outraced Damien’s secondary for […]

By Brian McInnis on August 23, 2019

No. 9 Damien 30, Waipahu 21 Holtz taking a couple of knees to end this thing in a 30-21 win for the Monarchs. Damien 3-0. Waipahu turns it over on downs at the Damien 46. 1:38 remaining, Monarchs looking to kill the clock. 10:17: Damien’s Fosi Ulima with two sacks on this Waipahu drive, and three total for the game. Holtz tosses a great fade to Jarvis Natividad for the 10-yard score and the XP is good as Damien goes […]
