GAME NIGHT 8/19: Konawaena/St. Francis

By Hawaii Prep World on August 19, 2016

Six games on Oahu are scheduled for Friday night. The OIA enters the first week of divisional play after the seven cross-division matchups last week, plus there’s a very intriguing Division II game at Leilehua featuring two teams that might see each other again in the state tournament. The Saints have been building from the intermediate level, winning an ILH D-II crown a few years back. They challenged hard last season, and with a 31-9 victory on the road against […]

St. Francis poised for huge year in D-II

By Billy Hull on August 12, 2016

The 2015 ILH regular season in Division II ended with Damien beating Pac-Five to earn the league title and automatic berth in the state tournament. It gave the Monarchs the title of “champions” which was well deserved. But there was another team in the league that could make a case it was playing the best football of anyone at the end of the season. A Pac-Five win over Damien would have forced a three-way playoff, which would have kept the […]

Saints make their case in hot ILH Division II race

By Nick Abramo on October 11, 2015

If you were looking for a nice, clean separation of teams in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II football standings, you have been recently disappointed. St. Francis threw a wrench into things and did not finish its regular season like it started. After losing their first two league games, the Saints stopped playing like a newbie (they’re in their third season of varsity football) and developed into a solid contender. Contender? Yes, with two straight wins, St. Francis (4-4, […]

LIVE BLOG: St. Francis 21, Damien 6, F

By Billy Hull on October 9, 2015

We knew when ‘Iolani jumped to Division I that there would be a new ILH Division II champion crowned for the first time since 2003. We didn’t know it might happen this quick. Damien, which is off to its first 5-0 start in school history, needs a win in either of its next two games to clinch the league title and automatic berth to the state tournament. The Monarchs won the first meeting against the Saints, 21-6, but St. Francis […]

St. Francis’ win was a highlight of Week 9

By Nick Abramo on October 6, 2015

St. Francis’ 12-9 win over Pac-Five at Aloha Stadium on Friday was one of the highlights of Week 9 in Hawaii high school football. It was the Saints’ first varsity victory in Interscholastic League of competition. The school started varsity football in the 2013 season. Radford’s OIA Division II regular-season title-clinching 28-7 win at Nanakuli on Friday was another biggie of Week 9, as was Kapaa’s KIF championship-clinching 28-0 win over Waimea at Hanapepe Stadium on Saturday. Week 9 scores of […]

Sister Joan a lot more than St. Francis’ No. 1 fan

By Nick Abramo on September 23, 2015

Quick, how many heads of school has St. Francis had since 1991? One, you say? Wrong. The answer is Nun. Funny or not, Sister Joan of Arc Souza is who we are talking about, and she’s been in the post for these last 25 years. Three years ago, she was a big reason behind the start of St. Francis’ varsity football team, and she’s watching it grow. “I love sports,” Souza said after the Saints’ 21-6 loss to Damien last […]
