Soccer not slight on dangerous scorers

By Jerry Campany on January 11, 2015

Waianae’s Stanton Spencer and Mililani’s Kalahikiola Judd both have scored nine goals this year. But that is where the similarity ends for the elite scorers. Judd, who has played two more games than Spencer, has the freedom of being surrounded by the talent that Hawaii’s Soccer Capitol can afford. Spencer, a standout in football, is about all Waianae has on the attack. Spencer has scored more than half of the team’s goals. Spencer has dented the net nine times in […]

McGehee keeps Mililani brand going

By Nick Abramo on January 9, 2015

Steve McGehee was an assistant for Jeff Yamamoto at Mililani for 15 years and now he’s the Trojans boys soccer head coach. And he’s loving the coaching part. “The administration part is not something I enjoy and it’s also something I’m not very good at,” he said Friday after a 1-0 win over Campbell at Kauinana Stadium. The Trojans were flying high, especially in the first half, and it was a surprise they did not come up with more goals. […]

Furuta scores 3 to lead Trojans

By Nick Abramo on January 9, 2015

Mililani remained the unquestioned leader in OIA West girls soccer Friday night with a 3-0 thumping of Campbell at Kauinana Stadium. Tia Furuta scored three times, including twice in the second half, and the Trojans defense shut Campbell down. With the win, Mililani improved to 8-0 and left Campbell at 5-2 and in a dogfight with Aiea and Pearl City for second place in the West. “We did so much better than we did on Tuesday (a 1-0 win over […]

‘Iolani soccer continues impressive run

By Billy Hull on January 7, 2015

Neither ‘Iolani boys soccer coach Chris Lee nor senior Spencer Ho could remember the last time they lost an ILH game. You have to go all the way back to 2012, when Ho was a freshman on the varsity team, to find the last loss the Raiders suffered to an ILH opponent. With apologies to Punahou, which has reached the state tournament in six straight seasons, it is ‘Iolani that has become the standard of excellence in the ILH these […]
