By Nick Abramo on February 19, 2016

Frank Baumholtz III has coached more than a few high school girls soccer games in his 28 years at the helm of the Pearl City Chargers. He had a lot to say about what the job is like in a candid interview after Pearl City’s 3-0 victory over Hilo in the state tournament quarterfinals Thursday at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. Here is what he had to say (by the way, “candid” and “Frank” are synonyms): >> On his team’s current […]

Hilo’s Harman in spectacular sequence

By Nick Abramo on February 19, 2016

Hilo’s Kalamanamana Harman was just trying to help out her goalkeeper, Saydee Bactad. It just so happens that she did it three times in the span of about 10 seconds. On an attack by Pearl City’s Randi Fontes down the right wing, a bounding ball eluded Bactad, so Harman ran toward the goal line and backpedaled a bit before knocking the ball out before it crossed the line. The ball, however, went right to the foot of the Chargers’ Jenise […]

This is the first time I have a smart phone (instead of a flip phone) at this annual ceremony and it is awesome. This is unofficially the happiest place in the world for the next few minutes. Almost everybody is smiling. Marcus Mariota is here. He […]

By Billy Hull on January 23, 2016

Kailua’s 1-0 win over Castle on Saturday provided a major shakeup in the OIA East girls soccer race. Taylor Strong‘s team-leading 10th goal for the Surfriders (7-2) knocked the Knights (7-2) out of first place with one regular season game to go.
