Kalaheo’s Adam Ferguson didn’t have an exact crystal ball into Monday’s huge upset victory over ‘Iolani, but he did have a general feeling the Mustangs would be making a strong showing this season. Four teams finished above Pearl City in the OIA Division I playoffs this season. Now, the Chargers have advanced farther than all four of those teams in the Division I portion of the Queen’s Medical Center/HHSAA Girls Soccer State Championships. Defending state champion Punahou is the No. 1 seed as it goes for back-to-back state titles for the fourth time since 2006 in the Queen’s Medical Center/HHSAA Boys Soccer State Championships beginning Monday. Since Mililani won four in a row from 2001-04, Punahou is the only team to repeat as state champion but hasn’t won three straight during the span. Punahou’s Taylor Matsubara is soaring after waiting for more than 2 years

Taylor Matsubara suffered an ACL injury right after her freshman season with the Punahou varsity girls soccer team.
