Crusaders’ Ulu-Perry gets noticed

By Jason Kaneshiro on October 10, 2013

StudentSports.com is rolling out its Hot 100 for the class of 2015 this week and Saint Louis offensive lineman Fred Ulu-Perry was part of a group unveiled on Wednesday. Ulu-Perry, whose highlight video from YouTube is below, made the list at No. 63. Ulu-Perry is part of a Crusaders offensive line that has given quarterback Ryder Kuhns time to complete nearly 64 percent of his passes for 1,133 yards and 15 touchdowns. Both totals lead the ILH. Running back Adam […]

Video: #1 Punahou vs. #4 Saint Louis

By Paul Honda on October 6, 2013

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 This started as a defensive duel, a 7-0 game going into the second quarter. Then each offense caught fire. It was a battle on many fronts. Punahou quarterback Larry Tuileta took his share of sacks, but the risk-reward paid off. Saint Louis quarterback Ryder Kuhns delivered big, too, finding his deep threats. In the end, Punahou’s ground game, with that unique mix of three-back sets, trumped all. It was their closest margin of victory […]

Saint Louis alum Mariota a legit Heisman candidate

By Hawaii Prep World on October 5, 2013

Despite abbreviated outings, Saint Louis School alum Marcus Mariota continues to strengthen his Heisman Trophy candidacy. Mariota accounted for a career-high seven touchdowns to lead the second-ranked Oregon Ducks to a 57-16 Pac-12 Conference victory over Colorado on Saturday in Boulder, Colo. The sophomore quarterback went 16-for-27 for 355 yards and five touchdowns, including a pretty 75-yard connection with Bralon Addison during a 29-point first quarter. He also rushed for 43 yards and two more TDs against the Buffaloes before […]

Update: Punahou 35, Saint Louis 32, final

By Paul Honda on October 4, 2013

First quarter Buffanblu’s first play from scrimmage is a deep post to Kanawai Noa, incomplete. But he was open. He got behind the Crusaders. Saint Louis did the same with Ryder Kuhns going deep to Drew Kobayashi on a pass that was just a bit long and off his fingertips. 6:30 – Larry Tuileta finds Micah Ma‘a for a 23-yard touchdown pass on third down. Punahou 7, Saint Louis 0. Second quarter 10:43 – Busted coverage allows tight end Spencer […]

No. 1 Punahou, No. 4 Saint Louis collide

By Billy Hull on October 4, 2013

No. 1 Punahou can make things easy by taking care of business Friday night at Aloha Stadium against No. 4 Saint Louis. The Crusaders can really mess things up with a win of their own. Assuming neither team slips up in its final regular-season game against Division II teams, Friday night’s tilt will determine how the ILH Division I playoff bracket will look. For Punahou (6-0, 4-0), the two-time defending ILH champion, it’s simple: Win, and you’re at home resting […]

Pupule’s ballot: Voters catching up to Pupule

By Paul Honda on September 24, 2013

Mililani is moving up in the Star-Advertiser Top 10 poll, which means I’m ahead of the curve or just prophetic. Or just lucky. After all, even a broken clock is right twice a day. Polls, of course, are not about predictions. Mililani simply looked to me like the second-best team in the state for some time — since Kamehameha’s loss to Punahou, to be precise. Didn’t really seem that way, though, while the Trojans were down 21-7 to Campbell at […]

Pupule’s ballot: Guess who at No. 2

By Paul Honda on September 19, 2013

Still some video to edit, but I’m squeezing this in. For the first time in weeks, we have virtually no debate about who is No. 1 in the islands. But I can’t help wondering just a bit about how good Mililani really is. They gave Punahou a serious battle in Week 2, a closer game than Kamehameha gave the Buffanblu. Even Lahainaluna, despite its lack of strength of schedule, has been impressive defensively. A dominant rushing attack. A dominant defense. […]
