Stanford is 7th Pac-12 team to offer Punahou DE/LB Tevarua Tafiti

By Paul Honda on July 27, 2020

Tevarua Tafiti never takes a thing for granted, and often says nothing about his own accolades. The 6-foot-3 defensive end collected his 13th football scholarship offer, earning an opportunity with Stanford. The 208-pound junior-to-be was a Star-Advertiser All-State selection last year, emerging as a scintillating playmaker for a stellar, deep Punahou defensive unit. “No matter where you line him up, he will make plays,” Punahou interim head coach Leonard Lau said. Inside linebackers coach Anthony Debold appreciates Tafiti’s humility, but […]

By Paul Honda on July 22, 2020

Senior-to-be Kilinahe Mendiola-Jensen secured his first football scholarship offer from the Pac-12 Conference on Wednesday. Arizona, with assistant coach Andy Buh dipping into the island pipeline again, made the opportunity available to the playmaking Punahou defensive back. That makes it 16 offers to FBS and FCS programs for Mendiola-Jensen. At 6 feet, 2 inches tall, recruiters have enjoyed the range and physicality of Mendiola-Jensen, who weighs in at 158 pounds. He has a 3.0 grade-point average. He was in contact […]

Coronavirus can’t slow dow Punahou’s Tevarua Tafiti, who picks up 2nd Pac-12 offer

By Billy Hull on April 13, 2020

The coronavirus pandemic is forcing high school athletes to get creative with their workout time. For Punahou’s Tevarua Tafiti, that means working out at home with a backpack filled with whatever he can find. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound sophomore doesn’t have any weights, so he’s improvised with workouts using a backpack that he fills with yearbooks, old textbooks, anything he can get his hands on. He’s posted those workouts on social media. That work ethic is a big reason why the […]

UNLV offer makes it eight total for Punahou LB Kahanu Kia

By Hawaii Prep World on March 26, 2020

Kahanu Kia feels grateful, but he won’t lie, either. UNLV’s offer on Wednesday made it a well of mixed emotions during this COVID-19 lockdown. The Punahou junior has eight FBS scholarship offers, as well as two Ivy League schools, Dartmouth and Princeton. The momentum in the recruitment of the 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker has picked up, but it was the cancellation of spring-break plans that were a downer. “We had a plan. This coronavirus thing has messed up a lot of […]

Punahou OL Solatoa Moeai on patient process that led to Utah

By Paul Honda on February 5, 2020

He was there to support his teammates again. Solatoa Moeai had spent years battling for them on the gridiron, an offensive lineman with advantages in physical and cerebral capacities. Punahou went 10-2 with Moeai as a key blocker for a pass-heavy offense that evolved into more downhill running with Vincent Terrell in the backfield. Moeai committed to Utah in December, signing early and joining, among others, Saint Louis safety Kamo‘i Latu as a new Ute. On Wednesday morning, he spent […]

By Paul Honda on February 5, 2020

The script wasn’t what Punahou football fans wanted, but in the end, the future is brighter than ever. Wide receiver Koa Eldredge made it official on Wednesday morning, signing his letter of intent to play football and baseball at Brigham Young University. Nearby, quarterback Hugh Brady inked his pact with Penn. >> CLICK HERE FOR A COMPLETE LIST OF SIGNEES When summer […]
