By Paul Honda on October 15, 2014

So, is it art? Or is it science? Is it pure intelligence? Or is it absolute passion? Punahou is all of the above, and by nature of this sport called football, you can toss in elegant brutality and and surgery in chaos. The Buffanblu’s 47-7 wipeout of a very good Kamehameha squad re-emphasized one of the truths about Hawaii high school football in 2014: if you build it, they will come. All that building has Punahou perched in a position […]

By Paul Honda on October 14, 2014

Punahou put up numbers against one of the state’s best defenses, Kamehameha, that are uniquely amazing. Punahou won a widely anticipated showdown on Friday, 47-7. It’s not that Kamehameha is bad. They’re very good. Punahou is just in another world. • Running back Wayne Taulapapa rushed for 126 yards and two TDs on just 11 carries. He may not have expected to play just one half, but that’s been the common thread all season for a team (and RB) who […]

LIVE BLOG: Punahou 47, Kamehameha 7, final

By Paul Honda on October 10, 2014

Pre-game The first game featured 90 pass attempts combined by Pac-Five and Damien, so this game is a wee bit behind schedule. It’s about 5 minutes until kickoff, which means a 9 p.m. start. Rain started to fall during warmups, for what that’s worth. Should be a classic, right? I’d love to see a scoring circus, but my gut says this will be a defensive struggle. I’m hearing that Kamehameha DB Dylan Kane and another starter may not start. That […]
