Humble and hungry: Punahou defensive playmaker Tevarua Tafiti

By Paul Honda on September 21, 2021

Another day, another opportunity for Tevarua Tafiti. Win or lose, the Punahou senior relishes a chance to get better when his football team is on the turf at Alexander Field. Punahou’s 41-23 loss to No. 1 Saint Louis over the weekend did nothing to diminish the vision of Tafiti. “Yes, with having a young team there were a lot of mistakes, but we gave a lot of effort. We just need to execute more in the game,” the 6-foot-3, 225-pound […]

The game was scheduled as the feature matchup on Friday at Aloha Stadium, but Billy Hull reported earlier today that the game will be rescheduled due to coronavirus protocols. No new date has been announced yet by the ILH. Punahou was 1-0 after a 33-28 win over Kamehameha last weekend. Saint Louis (0-1) […]

Tevarua Tafiti, John-Keawe Sagapolutele return for powerhouse Punahou

By Paul Honda on August 26, 2021

For several years now, Punahou’s defensive unit has been in lockdown mode. During Saint Louis’ 35-game win streak against teams in Hawaii, Punahou had the best shot to stun the Crusaders because of defense. That tone and tenor will not change a bit with defensive coordinator Nate Kia now the head coach. Elite prospect Tevarua Tafiti, a defensive end/linebacker, committed to Stanford. The talented playmaker has 19 scholarship offers, including Michigan, Wisconsin, Notre Dame and Virginia. Defensive end Kielan Siamani […]

Talented and growing: QBs John-Keawe and Jaron Sagapolutele

By Paul Honda on July 19, 2021

The arms wars are growing in high school football. Whether they’re a part of it or benefit from the decades of development in passing talent, John-Keawe and Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele are right there at the upper echelon. John-Keawe Sagapolutele enters his junior year with Punahou, nearly two years removed from a remarkable freshman season. Jaron, who enjoyed a major growth spurt and is now taller than his older brother, is a freshman slinger at Saint Louis. While John had an opportunity […]
