Pac-Five in no-man’s land as far as state football is concerned

By Nick Abramo on March 6, 2020

Pac-Five is a team without a football state tournament to try and qualify for. The squad is in the same predicament for 2020 that it was in last year, when ILH Division II had only one team for the first time. Under Hawaii High School Athletic Association rules, a league with only one team can’t qualify for a football state berth. The same rule does not apply to baseball. This spring, the Damien baseball team is the only ILH D-II […]

Pac-Five Coach Kip Botelho: Bowl game was ‘long shot’ anyway

By Paul Honda on October 24, 2019

Everyone is content, maybe even Pac-Five. The Wolfpack finished regular-season play 6-3 in Division II play. By all accounts, they’re a team worthy of a playoff spot. But in the era of interleague play, Pac-Five is the outlier, the only program that didn’t have a chance to qualify for postseason play because its league, the ILH, didn’t have any other D-II teams. The invigorated, interleague regular-season schedule for ILH and Oahu Interscholastic Association teams has been absorbed and embraced by […]

To play another day: Bowl possibilities for good, non-qualifying teams?

By Paul Honda on October 9, 2019

There is a muddled huddle atop the OIA D-II standings with Kaimuki, Kaiser and Roosevelt tied at 6-1. Kaimuki plays Kalani, Kaiser travels to face Kalaheo and, on Saturday, Roosevelt hikes to Nanakuli. If the three co-leaders win as expected, there will be a coin flip to determine seeding for the three playoff spots. The fourth spot is also up for grabs with Nanakuli needing a win and a Waialua loss to keep the Bulldogs from getting the final berth. […]

The Saturday afternoon thriller at Aloha Stadium means Pac-Five is 5-3 and has clinched a winning record for the […]

Coming off of a defeat against Roosevelt last week, the Pac-Five Wolfpack (3-3, 3-3) were out for redemption facing Kalaheo (0-7, 0-6) at Alex Kane Stadium on Friday. The Wolfpack’s 31-0 shutout revealed a team in control and ready to take advantage of the Mustangs’ multiple costly turnovers.
