Pupule’s ballot: Guess who at No. 2

By Paul Honda on September 19, 2013

Still some video to edit, but I’m squeezing this in. For the first time in weeks, we have virtually no debate about who is No. 1 in the islands. But I can’t help wondering just a bit about how good Mililani really is. They gave Punahou a serious battle in Week 2, a closer game than Kamehameha gave the Buffanblu. Even Lahainaluna, despite its lack of strength of schedule, has been impressive defensively. A dominant rushing attack. A dominant defense. […]

Kapolei leaves Leilehua stunned

By Jason Kaneshiro on September 14, 2013

From beginning to end, it was simply a weird and wild night in Wahiawa. The weirdness started in warmups when a power outage knocked out the lights at Hugh Yoshida Stadium. The Warriors, my opinion, have proven to be worth of the top spot by virtue of five wins, almost all against elite competition. Punahou deserves the spot, too, but until we […]

Kapolei’s no-huddle offense off and running

By Nick Abramo on August 10, 2013

Kapolei football coach Darren Hernandez gave some insight into his team’s version of the no-huddle offense after Friday night’s 42-7 season-opening, nonleague victory over Pearl City. The Hurricanes’ running game was in midseason form, and it was backed up by a passing game that was sprinkled in just enough to keep Pearl City’s defense wondering what was coming next all night long. “What makes us different than many no-huddle offenses (like Mililani, for instance) is that we gear it around […]

Football Tour: Kapolei

By Paul Honda on August 8, 2013

Wednesday, July 31, 2013 They’ve got nice uniforms. They’ve got tall linemen. They’ve got a few transfers. Only question is, can the Kapolei Hurricanes put it together in the merciless OIA Red West?
