Q&A: Kaimuki coach David Tautofi on showdown with Kaiser

By Paul Honda on September 13, 2019

It has been some time since a Kaiser-Kaimuki showdown carried this much weight. Or hunger. Kaimuki has enjoyed the fruit of its collective labor, succeeding in OIA Division II. It was enough that the OIA rules had the Bulldogs moving up to D-I after the 2018 season, but Kaimuki and its small enrollment/roster size remained in D-II. >> CLICK HERE TO READ TODAY’S GAME PREVIEW Kaiser’s pendulum of success and struggle over the past four decades is on the upswing […]

Q&A: Kaiser coach Tim Seaman on 5-0 start, battle with Kaimuki

By Paul Honda on September 12, 2019

Tim Seaman’s journey has been a road less traveled. First-time player as a senior at Kaiser. A disciple of Ron Lee, Bill Von Arnswaldt, Scott Chan, Cal Lee, Delbert Tengan. He was head coach at his alma mater in 1993 and ’94. Stepped aside to focus on his family. Returned to assist at Kaiser under Rich Miano. Now, after taking over a program that hit rock bottom two years ago, Kaiser is unbeaten (5-0, 3-0 OIA D-II) with a showdown […]

Damien gets a do-over at Hugh Yoshida Stadium

By Jerry Campany on September 12, 2019

This is the one Damien has been waiting for.  The Monarchs return to Hugh Yoshida Stadium on Friday, where they lost 23-17 to the Mules to hand ‘Iolani the coveted D1 state berth from the ILH last season. Damien coach Eddie Klaneski started that game with a failed onside kick and replaced starting quarterback Duke Hoohuli with Jake Holtz after a 2-for-7 start with an interception. The Monarchs couldn’t contend with Akui Tom-Makue‘s three field goals and booming punts but closed […]

Mililani adds an offensive lineman to 2020 Polynesian Bowl

By Billy Hull on September 12, 2019

Mililani offensive lineman Sergio Muasau has been named a Polynesian Bowl All-Star. The 6-foot, 315-pound senior is the fourth Trojans player to be selected to the game, joining defensive lineman Shane Kady and linebackers Muelu Iosefa and Bam Amina. Muasau was named to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser All-State third team last season as a junior. The other 15 players selected to the game from Hawaii high schools are Saint Louis linebackers Jordan Botelho and Nick Herbig and defensive tackle Stanley McKenzie, […]

Kahuku gets its second 2020 Polynesian Bowl All-Star

By Billy Hull on September 12, 2019

Kahuku cornerback Kaonohi Kaniho, a 6-foot, 180-pound senior, has been named a 2020 Polynesian Bowl All-Star. Kaniho, who has committed to play for Boise State next year, where he will play with brother Kekaula, is back to form this season after suffering a knee injury that forced him to miss most of his junior season. He was one of only two players to make the Honolulu Star-Advertiser All-State first team two years ago as a sophomore. Kaniho is the 18th […]

Roosevelt rolls into stadium looking for shutout record

By Jerry Campany on September 11, 2019

After going neck and neck for eight quarters last year, Pac-Five and coach Kip Botelho know as much about Roosevelt as anyone does.  Unfortunately for the Wolf Pack, Botelho can throw all of that game footage aside.  Kui Kahooilihala‘s Rough Riders are a completely different animal this year, riding a passing offense and stifling defense that has obliterated everyone in its path. Pac-Five will be tasked with slowing it on Friday at Aloha Stadium.  Roosevelt is 4-0 this year, their […]
