Tyler Taumua Stat Ticker update

By Paul Honda on October 27, 2011

Oh yes, it’s that time again, ladies and germs, to elaborate and congratulate these fine football teams. Perhaps no compliment would be more apt than one to Tyler Taumua as we examine the Tyler Taumua Stat Ticker. It’s been a few weeks since we last examined the junior running back’s prolific numbers. With the Great Wall of Bamboolas clearing his way, Taumua had been on a record pace through six games. How has he fared lately? He suffered an injury […]

Fourth and the season

By Paul Honda on October 23, 2011

Correction on the key fourth-and-1 play by Campbell late in yesterday’s game with Aiea. I thought I saw Justin Tago-Su‘e sneak it over for a first down, but I got mixed up after talking with the coaches and wrote that it was backup QB Isaac Hurd. It was Tago-Su‘e who snuck over for the key first down. It was a dramatic call for Campbell, which was at its 29-yard line with 3 minutes left. My apologies for the error. Paul […]

For good measure, wide receiver Tanner Nishioka delivered a touchdown pass to seal […]

By Paul Honda on October 18, 2011

(Wrote more than enough for the print edition. Here’s the uncut version.) In the beginning, there was basic, vanilla kicking of points after. He kicked the PATs, but preferred catching the football. Then came high school. Kaimi Fairbairn didn’t see much ahead in football, even at a program on the rise. He took a chance on water polo. “I almost drowned,” he said. “I’m not that good of a swimmer.” He went back to football. Punahou is quite glad he […]
