LIVE BLOG: Kapolei at Moanalua

By Paul Honda on September 5, 2014

Beautiful weather for a matchup that has playoff implications. Kapolei is 0-3 in OIA Blue play and Moanalua is 1-2. Five of the seven division members will qualify for the playoffs, so a win here helps Moanalua’s cause tremendously. For Kapolei, this is almost a must-win situation. After a treacherous gauntlet of elite competition, this marks the first time this season the Hurricanes are not playing a Top 10 team — though Moanalua is awfully close. Na Menehune stunned then-ranked […]

VIDEO: Mililani RB Vavae Malepeai

By Paul Honda on September 5, 2014

He is part of the most explosive offense in the state. Vavae Malepeai’s workload has been lighter this year as defenses close in, but his impact has opened up the passing game for the Mililani Trojans. He rushed for 154 yards and two TDs on just 15 carries in a 41-14 win over No. 10 Kapolei on Saturday.

By Nick Abramo on September 2, 2014

Oahu Interscholastic Association football start times will be a half-hour earlier on Friday nights, starting on Sept. 12, the league announced. The matter was discussed at the OIA office at Radford High School on Tuesday during the monthly athletic directors’ meeting. So far this season, the Friday game times have been 6 p.m. for junior varsity, with varsity to follow. With this change, the JV games on Friday will begin at 5:30 p.m. The change is not effective for this […]

August featured record performances

By Billy Hull on September 2, 2014

The month of August was about as crazy as any opening month of prep football that I’ve ever seen. It started with the hurricane warning for Iselle that forced the cancellation of the first week of the season. No Father Bray games were played at Aloha Stadium and a slew of great ILH-OIA matchups, including Mililani/Saint Louis, Leilehua/Punahou and Kamehameha/Waianae, were wiped out. Mililani and Saint Louis found a way to get that game played the following week and the […]
