Farrington had its share of tricks

By Paul Honda on September 28, 2014

The Govs and Trojans had their share of wrinkles to start the game on Friday night. Mililani put tight end Tyler Santos in motion and used him as a blocker on the interior for one snap, looking much like Farrington’s Freedom Alualu when he lines up as a slotback before going in motion. Maybe the Trojans used Santos in Alualu’s role during practice? But the Mamiya wrinkle was craftier. On Farrington’s first play from scrimmage, he lined up in the […]

A modern Trojan army: No defense stops it

By Paul Honda on September 28, 2014

Six weeks into the regular-season slate, this much is clear: the Mililani Trojans punish those who are imperfect. Against another strong defensive unit, Mililani rolled up 580 total yards: 302 rushing yards on 38 carries, and 278 by air. Farrington is the latest example of how the state’s No. 2- ranked team can frustrate and pacify so many opponents. Saturday’s 41-14 win by the men of Troy — lifting Mililani to 6-0 in OIA Blue play (7-0 overall) and sinking […]

LIVE BLOG: Mililani 41, Farrington 14, final

By Paul Honda on September 27, 2014

First quarter A calculated risk by York on the opening series pays off. Milton came through with a first-down pass on fourth-and-6, and then hit Timoteo for a 42-yard touchdown strike to give the Trojans a 6-0 lead. Farrington wasted no time. On the next play from scrimmage, Mamiya lined up at tailback, went in motion to the slot and reeled in a quick slant pass for an 80-yard touchdown. Sasaoka’s PAT kick gave the Govs a 7-6 lead with […]

A golden moment: Nanakuli is clutch

By Paul Honda on September 27, 2014

It may surprise some fans, but there are people on Oahu who never really want to see a great Division-II football game. Sometimes it’s just the label that turns them off. Other times, it’s just circumstance. Out of sight, out of mind. Nanakuli and Pearl City on Friday night — instant classic. The Golden Hawks rallied from 14 points down for a 28-21 win, scoring the go-ahead touchdown with less than 3 minutes left. Still, Pearl City had a nice […]

Spencer steps up for Waianae

By Jason Kaneshiro on September 27, 2014

While University of Hawaii receiver/punter/punt returner Scott Harding takes the weekend off, Waianae’s Stanton Spencer stayed busy as a multi-purpose threat on Friday. Like Harding, Spencer does double duty on offense and special teams for the Seariders and the senior contributed in both phases to help Waianae roll past Waipahu 43-0 on the Marauders’ homecoming night. Spencer accounted for 19 points with two touchdown receptions, a 37-yard field goal and four PATs. Four of his kickoffs went for touchbacks and […]

Punahou’s Noa closing in on Welch

By Billy Hull on September 26, 2014

Punahou receiver Kanawai Noa went over 100 yards receiving for the 14th time in 23 games Friday as he closes in on Gerald Welch‘s all-time record in career receiving yards. The Punahou senior finished with six receptions for 169 yards and a touchdown in a 59-22 victory over ‘Iolani in his final home game at Alexander Field. Noa, who caught a 63-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ephraim Tuliloa for his 31st career receiving TD, now has 2,928 yards in 23 […]
