By Paul Honda on October 23, 2014

First quarter The Trojans drive 67 yards in eight plays, mixing it up on the ground and by air. A 33-yard strike from McKenzie Milton to Bronson Ramos sparked the drive, and after a sack, Milton found Vavae Malepeai for a 27-yard screen pass. Malepeai scored on a 10-yard run around left end, running over a defender at the 1-yard line. PAT blocked. MIL 6, CAM 0, 9:34. Campbell’s first series stalls at its 37-yard line. Damien ready to end steak against ‘Iolani

By Billy Hull on October 23, 2014

You could hear the disappointment in Eddie Klaneski‘s face and see the frustration with every pained expression. After Damien’s 37-14 loss to ‘Iolani back in late August, Klaneski wasn’t a coach happy that his team stayed close with the 10-time defending ILH Division II champions through two and a half quarters. There were no moral victories here. Even though the Monarchs hadn’t beaten ‘Iolani in their last 15 tries, Klaneski walked onto the ‘Iolani campus that day expecting to beat […]

Campbell’s big test awaits

By Nick Abramo on October 22, 2014

Going into last Friday’s OIA quarterfinals, the Campbell at Leilehua matchup looked like a tossup on paper. That’s the way the game played out, and the Sabers (7-2) eventually took control with defense and ball control to move on to a rematch with Mililani (9-0) on Thursday at Aloha Stadium. Campbell came back from a 14-7 halftime lead for a 20-14 win, and sophomore quarterback Ezra Savea threw the ball just three times in the second half. The turning point […]

Mules were resilient and entertaining

By Nick Abramo on October 22, 2014

It’s the worst time of year for Nolan Tokuda. Football season is over. The Leilehua coach surely thought his team could make it farther than the OIA quarterfinals, but that is not the main reason why he is dismayed. “All that time we spent together, the players and the coaches … we won’t be seeing them again, and I’ll especially miss the seniors,” he said moments after Campbell came to Wahiawa and knocked the Mules out of the OIA D-I […]

Farrington moves up two spots to No. 4

By Nick Abramo on October 20, 2014

Two weeks ago, Farrington and Kahuku were tied at No. 5 in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s Top 10 football poll. Last week, Kahuku was No. 5 and Farrington No. 6. This week, the poll, which will be in Tuesday’s Star-Advertiser and is on the front page of hawaiiprepworld.com, has the Governors at No. 4 and the Red Raiders at No. 5. Both teams won OIA quarterfinal games over the weekend, and apparently, voters were more impressed with Farrington’s 37-15 victory over […]
