It’s a whole new world, maybe. Tausili Fiatoa, an eighth grader who plays for the Laie Park Red Raiders in the Hawaii State Jr. Prep Sports football league, received a football scholarship offer from Oregon State on Thursday. It was coming in a matter of time for Kapolei junior Toleafoa Sean Auwae. Utah State finally made an offer to the 6-foot-4, 305-pound offensive lineman, and the “finally” is only because it seemed logical. It is the first and it probably won’t be the last. Oregon State made a football scholarship offer on Wednesday night to Kapolei freshman Rocky Savea. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Savea is an outside linebacker who transferred during the winter from Campbell with older brother Ezra, a quarterback who started several games for the Sabers. Washington State became the second FBS school to make a football scholarship offer to Saint Louis junior Nate Herbig. The Cougars made the offer to the 6-foot-4, 320-pound offensive lineman on Monday. San Diego State made an offer to Herbig in early March. It’s already been quite a week for Mililani junior Vavae Malepeai. The 6-foot, 200-pound running back received football scholarship offers from national powerhouse Oregon and Pac 12 mainstay USC. Kalakaua Timoteo is taking no breaks, not even with basketball season only recently over. On the gridiron, the Mililani junior continues to do work. He went to the Nike Opening in Oakland, Calif. over the weekend and was featured in a video by Under The Radar. Timoteo, 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, was a Star-Advertiser All-State first-team selection as a wide receiver last fall. He had 55 receptions for 988 yards and 11 touchdowns. New Kahuku football coach Vavae Tata has his new staff in place, he confirmed Monday. Former Saint Louis and University of Hawaii quarterback John Hao is the offensive coordinator. Gerald Welch, another former Crusader and Rainbow Warrior, will coach the wide receivers. Tata, a former UCLA defensive end, will double up as the defensive coordinator.
