Kahuku football community loses 3 big names

Within the last few weeks, three people from the Kahuku football community died. Former Red Raiders player Benji Kemoeatu — the brother of former NFL players Chris Kemoeatu and Ma‘ake Kemoeatu — died at age 24 of a massive heart attack while at a construction job site on Oahu last week, according to trusted sources close to Kahuku football. Kapanui part of turnaround at Liberty High

As a three-year starting quarterback at Roosevelt from 1997-99, Chad Kapanui helped turn a team that went 0-9 in his sophomore season into a 7-3 squad as a senior. Anuenue forfeits game vs. Kalaheo

Anuenue forfeited its third game of the season, coach Keli‘i Pio Adams confirmed Thursday night. The Hawaiian immersion school from the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division II has 19 available players on its 23-person roster, but most of them are underclassmen. The first of three big games this year featuring a legitimate mainland team against one of the best from Hawaii takes place Saturday when Liberty (Nev.) High faces No. 2 Saint Louis at Aloha Stadium.
