Kahuku stays in USA Today Super 25 despite loss

By Hawaii Prep World on September 19, 2016

After having its 18-game winning streak snapped in a 35-7 loss to No. 1 Bishop Gorman on Saturday night in Las Vegas, Hawaii’s No. 1-ranked team, Kahuku, remained in the USA Today Super 25 rankings released Monday. Kahuku (5-1) dropped seven spots to No. 24 after allowing a season-high 35 points to the Gaels, who got four touchdown passes and a touchdown run from quarterback Tate Martell in the win. Governors keep Sula with them

By Christian Shimabuku on September 18, 2016

Behind Farrington’s record-breaking performance on Saturday night was a player that didn’t accumulate any statistics for the Governors. Wesley Sula would have been a senior at Farrington had he not had his life tragically taken away during a stabbing in April. Saturday night’s game against Nanakuli doubled up as senior night and homecoming for the Govs. The team carried his jersey out during Farrington’s singing of the alma mater. “I was waiting for a time where we could do that,” […]

Kaimuki shores up playoff chances

By Brian McInnis on September 18, 2016

Kaimuki continues to have Kalaheo’s number. With a 45-25 Bulldogs victory over the Mustangs at Kailua’s Alex Kane Stadium on Saturday night, Kaimuki has won eight straight in the series going back to 1998. More importantly, the lopsided decision kept Kaimuki (3-2, 3-1) in solid position for one of four OIA Division II playoff berths out of the eight teams in the conference heading into a homecoming date with last-place McKinley next week. Kalaheo (1-5, 1-4) saw its playoff chances […]

Kamehameha’s big blue pool of patience

By Paul Honda on September 17, 2016

There are numbers — one win and two losses in conference play — and then there is hope. The Kamehameha Warriors are playing in a vacuum known as the Interscholastic League of Honolulu. There, even a .500 record is easy to overlook, even tough it would mean posting three wins over Top 10 teams. After a 35-3 loss to No. 2 Saint Louis on Saturday night at Aloha Stadium, Kamehameha’s sideline — the band, the cheerleaders, their spectators — all […]

Milton and UCF fall short in double overtime

By Nick Abramo on September 17, 2016

Mililani’s McKenzie Milton, in his first college start, got UCF into double overtime against Big Ten opponent Maryland, but the Knights lost 30-24 to the Terrapins in Orlando on Saturday. Milton, a true freshman, went 21-for-36 for 260 yards in the contest, including a 4-yard touchdown to Dontravious Wilson. Regulation time ended at 17-17. The Terrapins (3-0) got the ball first and scored to make it 24-17. After being sacked on the Knights’ first possession of overtime, Milton rolled right […]
