GAME NIGHT 10/29: Kapolei/Waianae

By Hawaii Prep World on October 29, 2016

The do-or-die OIA third-place game has had its share of moments in recent years. Just last year, this same Waianae team preparing to play Kapolei edged out a 20-19 win over Farrington to reach the state tournament, where it advanced to the semifinals in Division I before losing to Kahuku. This season, things are different. This won’t be the end of the road for either team. Both have already qualified for the Open Division of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA State […]

VIDEO: Kahuku CB Kekaula Kaniho

By Paul Honda on October 29, 2016

Top-ranked Kahuku’s roll — or stampede — to another Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I championship began with defense. The Red Raiders’ 44-8 win over Farrington was another demonstration of great defense nullifying great offense. The Governors’ passing game developed into a formidable weapon this season, and they had just rallied past Kapolei 33-27 in the semifinals. However, a front seven led by defensive end Aliki Vimahi brought consistent pressure on Farrington’s passers, and cornerbacks Stokes Nihipali-Botelho and Kekaula Kaniho led […]

Kahuku’s Vimahi close to making commitment

By Christian Shimabuku on October 29, 2016

On Tuesday, Kahuku senior Aliki Vimahi tweeted that he was offered a scholarship by Southern California, his dream school. After Friday’s 44-8 win over Farrington to capture the school’s second straight OIA title and 25th overall, Vimahi was seen wearing a sleeve on each arm. Both were emblazoned with the USC logo. Among the double-digit amount of offers he holds, it’s safe to say that this one was pretty special to him. “It’s been my dream school ever since I […]

Lee home resting after successful surgery

By Paul Honda on October 29, 2016

Saint Louis football coach Cal Lee is at home recuperating from successful surgery to remove a kidney stone. The surgery was done on Friday night for the longtime coach, who had endured weeks of pain because the kidney stone was too large to shrink by other means. “He’s fine, home resting,” said his brother, Ron Lee. Cal Lee coached last week when Saint Louis defeated Punahou 28-14 to capture the ILH championship. The Crusaders and Buffanblu will learn when their […]

Waialua kept its composure to seal title win

By Nick Abramo on October 29, 2016

Make one big mistake and it’s over. Really. Waialua was clinging to a 1-point lead late in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division II championship game and could easily have blown it. But the Bulldogs didn’t. And now after a 36-35 victory over Waipahu, they are owners of a league title for the first time since 1955. How sweet is that? Head coach Lincoln Barit was trying to make his way over to the edge of the field to join in […]

VIDEO: Farrington WR Afe taken to hospital

By Paul Honda on October 29, 2016

Update 3 a.m. X-rays came back negative and he is awaiting an MRI when the specialist arrives at Pali Momi, Afe’s parents said. The bruise in the middle of his back was enough to cause some difficulty breathing, he said. The end of a 44-8 loss to nationally-ranked Kahuku in the OIA Division I championship game was a painful one for the Farrington Governors. After a fourth-quarter pass was overthrown, Farrington wide receiver Mosi Afe chased after Kahuku cornerback Na‘a […]
