It was a formality since the visit of new Oregon head football coach Willie Taggart to the home of brothers Tua and Taulia Tagovailoa over the weekend. Stanford offensive line Nate Herbig, who graduated from Saint Louis seven months ago, was named to the ESPN.com true freshman All-America team on Monday. The awards keep coming for Saint Louis quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Tagovailoa, who led the Crusaders to the Open Division state championship this year, was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for the Hawaii football season. Tagovailoa is now able to select a national or youth sports organization to donate $1,000 to and can up the haul to $10,000 if he is the national winner of an essay contest. Former Pearl City quarterback Jordan Ta’amu, who spent the last two seasons at New Mexico Military Institute, has committed to Ole Miss. Ta’amu chose the Rebels over offers from New Mexico, Minnesota, Eastern Kentucky and Southern Mississippi. Three weeks ago, he was named Southwest Junior College Conference player of the year after finishing with 3,190 total yards and 38 touchdowns this past season. Kapolei’s Mareko added to Polynesian Bowl

Kapolei linebacker Omar Mareko has accepted an invite to the 2017 Polynesian Bowl, increasing the total of players from Hawaii selected to the game to 34. Mareko was a key part of a Hurricanes defense that helped Kapolei finish 10-3 this season. One of Willie Taggart‘s first acts as Oregon football coach was to jump on a plane to Hawaii. Taggart, who was hired on Wednesday, is on his way to Ewa Beach to visit Saint Louis quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who is committed to Alabama.
