By Billy Hull on January 28, 2017

Oregon’s late recruiting season surge under new head coach Willie Taggart has definitely been felt in the islands. The Ducks made a late push to sway Saint Louis linebacker Isaac Slade-Matautia to commit to Oregon after he was considered to be leaning to Nebraska. Now Oregon has apparently set its sights on Kapaa offensive lineman Morris Unutoa in the final days leading to National Letter of Intent Signing Day on Wednesday. Unutoa picked up his 12th Division I offer from […]

Kaiser’s Kaufusi can do it all

By Billy Hull on January 24, 2017

If there’s one person that could argue there should be more than 24 hours in a day, it’s Kaiser’s Andrew Kaufusi. It’s hard to figure out when the Cougars senior has time to sleep. A 4.0 student in the classroom, Kaufusi, who was featured in Tuesday’s Honolulu Star-Advertiser, played five positions for the Kaiser football team in the fall and is a starting fullback for the undefeated boys soccer team, which plays Campbell in the quarterfinals of the OIA playoffs […]

First Oregon State got Kahuku’s Kesi Ah-Hoy to open up his recruitment after committing to Hawaii. Then it got Leilehua’s Charles Moku Watson to commit after he had originally pledged to Washington State last summer. Now the Beavers are adding some beef to their offensive line from Hawaii with the commitment of Waianae’s Onesimus Lutu-Clarke. The 6-foot-5, 290-pound Clarke, who participated in the inaugural Polynesian Bowl at Aloha Stadium on Saturday night, made his commitment public on Twitter tonight. Committed […]

Watson’s commitment to OSU was tough decision

By Christian Shimabuku on January 22, 2017

As one of six preordained participants of the Polynesian Bowl to make his college commitment during the game, the pressure was on Leilehua’s Charles Moku Watson to make a decision. After 10 scholarship offers and a decommitment to Washington State last fall, Watson narrowed his options down to Oregon State and BYU before Saturday night. Regardless, Watson didn’t decide until that morning, ultimately choosing the Beavers. “I kind of slept on it. It was a really hard decision. It took […]

All of the stars aligned at the end for Saint Louis senior Isaac Slade-Matautia. The four-star linebacker announced his commitment to Oregon during the fourth quarter of the first annual Polynesian Bowl on Saturday night at Aloha Stadium. A combination of past program success, Hawaii ties and future promise played a large role in his decision. Two of the last top-10 picks in the NFL Draft hailing from Hawaii are UO products. There’s Ducks legend and 2014 Heisman Trophy winner […]

Epenesa stands out in Polynesian Bowl

By Billy Hull on January 22, 2017

There was little doubt after the inaugural Polynesian Bowl on Saturday night at Aloha Stadium that the defensive lines of both teams were the dominant group. At one point, Team Mariota lined up a threesome of Aliki Vimahi (Kahuku), Nakoa Pauole (Kamehameha) and Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa (Kapolei), who combined for five tackles for loss and played a big role in holding Team Stanley to 38 total yards rushing. The only problem was, 38 yards rushing was an explosion compared to what […]

By Christian Shimabuku on January 21, 2017

Leilehua senior Charles Moku Watson was the first player in Hawaii from the class of 2017 to commit to Oregon State during the first annual Polynesian Bowl on Saturday night at Aloha Stadium. Kahuku’s Kesi Ah-Hoy, who originally committed to Hawaii, could soon be joining him. Ah-Hoy has opened up his recruiting and is choosing between Hawaii and Oregon State after a home visit from the Beavers’ coaching staff made him reconsider his options. The Beavers originally recruited him as […]

By Hawaii Prep World on January 21, 2017

Saint Louis senior linebacker Isaac Slade-Matautia was one of six players to announce their college commitments during the inaugural Polynesian Bowl on Saturday night at Aloha Stadium.
