At that time, according to multiple sources, the Cougars had 19 players but seven were ineligible for various reasons. Contacted by phone Wednesday, Johnson said Kaiser coach Arnold Martinez called him earlier […]

Connecticut’s Taft School bonded with Govs

By Nick Abramo on August 29, 2017

A private college preparatory school football team from Connecticut had the trip of a lifetime last week in Hawaii. The only downside is that Taft School of Watertown, Conn., didn’t get to play a real game. Instead, they held five practices, including one at Farrington alongside the Governors. Football teams from the New England area don’t start as early as teams from Hawaii, so the practices in Hawaii were the Big Red’s first official workouts of the season. Taft originally […]

By Paul Honda on August 29, 2017

In his young life, Sione Veikoso has learned and grown, figuratively and literally. The Kailua senior has overcome a great loss in his life off the field, and reached mountain peaks individually on the field and in the classroom. Here is the full feature on Veikoso in today’s Honolulu Star-Advertiser. Here are some slices that didn’t make it into the feature story: > Christian Mejia, another three-sport standout, was one of the team’s leaders when Veikoso was learning the ropes. […]
