Semifinals begin at 10 a.m., weigh-ins are complete and the wrestlers are on the mat warming up. Carl Schroers just started overseeing his final state tournament reminding coaches that this isn’t life and death, bad calls happen to good people and when they do it is up to coaches to set the example by not freaking out. Campbell’s Kahaloa draws crowd of scouts

You would figure a season-opening OIA baseball game would just be another game. But it wasn’t. Not with Ian Kahaloa pitching for Campbell. Not with four major league scouts at the park. After the game, at an 8-0 Campbell win over Waianae on Thursday in Ewa Beach, Sabers coach Rory Pico mentioned that the scouts — more than just the four — come to practice to watch Kahaloa. ILH girls soccer all stars

The ILH named ‘Iolani’s Kristen Hori the offensive player of the year and Kamehameha’s Hope Tsuneyoshi the defensive player of the year in girls soccer on Thursday. Hori led Iolani to the state tournmament final, where the Raiders lost to Mililani, 1-0. Nishiura is medalist in OIA golf tourney No. 2

Mililani’s Mari Nishiura won the OIA’s second girls golf tournament of the season on Monday at Mililani Golf Club. Nishiura fired an even-par 72 to capture the girls tournament by four shots over Kaiser’s Malia Nam. On the boys side, Kalani’s Robert Choy and Moanalua’s Shawn Lu tied for medalist honors with even-par 72s. Moanalua’s Kyosuke Hara was a stroke back at 73. IThe state won’t hand Teshya Alo and Lelelei Mataafa their third state crowns until Saturday, but they might as well. Alo won the ILH unopposed last week while Mataafa cruised to her third MIL title.
