Kapoi, Ah-Hoy, Watson receive college offers

Kamehameha defensive end Alema Kapoi is among three high school football players to be offered FBS Division I scholarships recently, according to Scout.com. Kapoi, a senior-to-be this fall, is a 6-foot, 265-pound defensive end, and he was offered a scholarship by Army. Two juniors-to-be — Kahuku running back Kesi Ah-Hoy and Leilehua safety Charles Watson — were also offered scholarships. Smith steps down as Kalaheo basketball coach

After five seasons and state titles in both Division I and Division II, Alika Smith has stepped down as boys basketball coach at Kalaheo. Smith cited philosophical differences with administration at the school in an interview with Paul Honda for a story running in Tuesday’s Honolulu Star-Advertiser. Tagovailoa adds Oregon State to list

The promises keep arriving via e-mail, phone calls and snail mail in Ewa Beach. Tua Tagovailoa is, with no doubt, the state’s most coveted junior-to-be. Oregon State is now the 15th FBS university to make a football scholarship offer to the 6-foot-1, 215-pound quarterback. ‘Iolani adds Carney to lead volleyball program

Iolani chose one of its own to lead its boys volleyball program. The Raiders announced on Friday that former player Sean Carney has been named their new boys volleyball coach. Carney takes over for Carl Rallita, who stepped down after three seasons. Carney was the head coach at Maryknoll for the past two seasons, capped with a third-place finish in the ILH last year. Carney’s Spartans went 2-1 against the Raiders last year and Iolani finished fourth in the league. […]

Report: Kahaloa signs for $300,000

MLB.com’s Jim Callis was the first to report that recent Campbell High graduate Ian Kahaloa signed a professional contract with the Cincinnati Reds earlier this week that included a signing bonus of $300,000. Slot value for the No. 145 overall pick was listed at $369,400. Callis also wrote on Twitter that Kahaloa had agreed to a deal for $400,000 before a physical raised concerns about his elbow. Smith-Bejgrowicz, Moku are ILH track MVPs

Kayson Smith-Bejgrowicz and Madison Moku were chosen as the Interscholastic League of Honolulu’s track and field MVPs, the league announced recently. Smith-Bejlgrowicz, a Kamehameha senior who was named the Gatorade Hawaii Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year last week, won the league’s long jump, triple jump and high jump.
