Nerdpod: Running Backs v2.0

By Paul Honda on October 6, 2016

NERDPOD: Running backs v2.0 The Star-Advertiser and Hawaii Prep World’s Paul Honda breaks down some of the best running backs in the state. Why do I start again with running backs instead of receivers or quarterbacks? I suppose, well, it’s not that RB is my favorite position, or that they’re better as a group. It’s probably because even in this era of mostly single-back offenses, it is still an important, sometimes nearly impossible position to master. Between all the pass […]

The Trojans have been seeded in the top two in the West every year since 2009. >> Kapolei […]

By Jason Kaneshiro on October 5, 2016

Monday’s practice wasn’t exactly just another workout for the Pearl City football teams. The school’s artificial turf field was cleared for use earlier in the day and the Chargers varsity and junior varsity teams held their first practices on the new playing surface. “They were totally excited,” Pearl City coach Robin Kami said. Pearl City had played its previous two “home” games this season at Aiea. While work on the accompanying track continues, the school received clearance to use the […]

New wrinkles in Waipahu’s Black Flag

By Paul Honda on October 5, 2016

They call it the “Pirate.” When the Waipahu Marauders lined up for a point-after-touchdown conversion against Kaimuki during the second half on Saturday, the homecoming crowd saw something slightly different. It was a throwback, something many teams over the years had used, most notably Roosevelt. Back more than a decade ago, Roosevelt assistant coach Jeff Azuma trained their offensive personnel into a package of (literally) off-center formations that he named after aviary species. Birds. One was Flamingo. What Waipahu used […]
