VIDEO: Mililani-Kamehameha game highlights

By Paul Honda on August 20, 2018

The showdown between No. 3 Mililani and No. 6 Kamehameha lived up to all expectations. Though it was a shootout at times — 304 yards and four TD passes by Mililani quarterback Dillon Gabriel, Kamehameha wide receiver Skyler Ramos with seven receptions for 141 yards and three total TDs — the Trojans came up with the defensive play of the game to end Kamehameha’s last-minute drive.

By Billy Hull on August 20, 2018

Despite a 40-point blowout win over Narbonne (Calif.) and a loss by a team ranked ahead of them in the USA Today Super 25, the Saint Louis Crusaders remained at No. 14 in the nation in this week’s rankings. De La Salle (Calif.) jumped ahead of the Crusaders to No. 10 after a 14-0 win over Folsom (Calif.). The Spartans were unranked entering the season. Q&A: Mililani QB Dillon Gabriel

By Paul Honda on August 19, 2018

On a wet night at John Kauinana Stadium, Dillon Gabriel is stoked about Mililani’s 31-24 thriller of a win over Kamehameha. He’s less than thrilled about his own performance. Gabriel was crucial, once again, with 304 passing yards and four touchdown passes. Maybe it was the wet surface and football that had him 18-for-34, but he didn’t turn the ball over. All Gabriel cares about, though, is the team win. Mililani, ranked No. 3 in the Star-Advertiser Football Top 10, […]

No. 4 Campbell settles down, pulls away

By Jason Kaneshiro on August 19, 2018

Campbell’s effort and energy concerned coach Darren Johnson early in Saturday’s OIA Open Division matchup with Farrington. The Sabers had too much of both. Coming off a bye week, the Sabers eagerness to get back in the action revved into the red for much of the first quarter. After falling behind, the fourth-ranked Sabers settled in and ran away from the 10th-ranked Governors in a 34-7 win to open their OIA Open Division schedule. “They were so hungry that we […]

No. 3 Trojans overcome adversity to win thriller

By Paul Honda on August 19, 2018

One by one, the Trojans of Mililani went down. With powerful running back Kilifi Malepeai already out with an injury, they entered Saturday night’s epic battle with Kamehameha at less than full strength. But shortly into the game, defensive tackle/running back Mykah Tuiolemotu suffered a leg injury. Later, it was receiver/kick returner Reichel Vegas who got hurt. Then receiver/punter Cy Kuboyama-Hayashi limped off the field. Linebacker Darius Muasau had returned from an ankle injury in time for the game. Mililani […]

Damien’s Ho‘ohuli has prodigious homecoming

By Brian McInnis on August 19, 2018

Maybe it was meant to be for Nanakuli native Duke Ho‘ohuli. The Damien sophomore linebacker — and backup quarterback — was pressed into duty in his secondary role on Saturday night in the Nanakuli Valley, as starting signal-caller Jake Holtz was knocked out of the game with a sprained ankle on the Monarchs’ opening drive against the Golden Hawks. Ho‘ohuli stepped in like nothing happened and completed the 96-yard drive, lofting a pass to Lindon Sevilleja for a 12-yard fade […]

Leilehua’s offense starting to come together

By Nick Abramo on August 18, 2018

Offensive coordinator Andrew Manley talked to his Leilehua players about the high energy the team showed in Saturday’s 37-19 home victory over Castle. And it was true. After a little bit of a slow start (punt and then fumble) the Mules had a hop in their step the rest of the way. Quarterback Max Nichols spread the ball around for his 291 passing yards and four TDs. Dorian Furtado was the recipient of four passes for 115 yards and two […]
