Winter is coming, and it is clearly part of fall sports. The Zippy’s State Cheerleading Championships will be at Blaisdell Center on Dec. 18, the Hawaii High School Athletic Association announced on Wednesday morning. The day-by-day grind rarely stops. Haiti Tautua‘a wouldn’t have it any other way. The Waianae setter turned down more than 30 scholarship offers and committed to Pitt, where she will join the women’s volleyball team — in 2023. Polynesian Bowl to be played at Kamehameha’s Kunuiakea Stadium

The renovation of Kunuiakea Stadium will conclude with good timing for the Polynesian Bowl. Kamehameha Schools and the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame announced a multi-year partnership on Tuesday. Coaches know best. Or maybe not. For a second week in a row, Kamehameha is atop the Honolulu Star-Advertiser Girls Volleyball Top 10. The Warriors defeated Mid-Pacific last week to finish ILH play 6-3, behind eventual first-place finisher Punahou. No field, no problem for Big Red. Kahuku ascended to the No. 1 position in today’s Honolulu Star-Advertiser Football Top 10, collecting nine of 12 first-place votes to oust Kamehameha. Kahuku overwhelmed Leilehua 55-0 over the weekend and improved to 3-0, outscoring OIA Open Division foes 171-20. Two of three opponents are currently or have previously been in this season’s Top 10 rankings. The Pony Express lives. Between Christian Payton and Michael Hayslett, the Radford Rams have a 1-2 combo at running back that can literally carry the offense. Payton rushed for 147 yards and four touchdowns, while Hayslett rumbled for 123 yards and two more TDs in Radford’s 62-20 victory over McKinley on Saturday night at Skippa Diaz Stadium.
