ILH rules against curtailing coaching restrictions

At their postseason meetings, the ILH basketball and volleyball coaches voted to request the elimination of coaching restrictions. The ILH athletic directors, however, voted to keep the restrictions in place. By rule, ILH coaches are not allowed to coach players from their varsity teams during offseason periods, excluding summer. Kamehameha’s Kalina Obrey is the Gatorade Hawaii girls basketball player of the year, the Gatorade Company announced recently. The award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the field. Bryson Ewaliko saves Kailua’s win over Castle

With a new name, Bryson Ewaliko is still at the top of his game. The Kailua senior, known as Bryson Ballesteros until just two weeks ago, locked down the save in Kailua’s 7-4 win over Castle on Friday afternoon. Lawyer unsure if Kaiser football parent will appeal

Kaiser football parent Gregory Tartamella‘s lawyer does not know if they will be appealing last Friday’s guilty verdicts in a Circuit Court jury trial. Tartamella will be sentenced May 8 after he was found guilty of second-degree assault, two counts of harassment, and first-degree terroristic threatening. St. Francis senior Kameron Ng won the Gatorade Hawaii Boys Basketball Player of the Year award for the second straight year on Friday. Ng, who finished second to Kahuku’s Tolu Smith in the Star-Advertiser player of the year voting as a junior, is up for the award again this year.
